Weather in Samui
Samui has typically three seasons in a year. The seasons in Samui is not the same as Krabi and Phuket, as these destinations are located in/at the Andaman Sea and Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are located in the Gulf of Thailand. This makes the climate differences evident.
Dry Season
December - February: The dry season on Samui. Not much raining, but it can be some refreshing wind or breeze on these islands then. Great for body surfing. The sun is shining a lot on us at this period of the year!
Hot Season
March - August: The weather is still dry in this time, and rather hot. In May the raining may increase a little. This is a great period to visit Samui if you can stand 30-35 degrees Celsius daytime. The sunshine is still dominating the day time, almost as much as in the Dry Season.
Rain Season
September - November: Also known as the monsoon season. It's still hot and normally, there are many sunny days anyway. Sometimes you might find yourself in a refreshing monsoon shower for a moment. The rain showers often last just for a short while though and as these island's water supplies are finite, the water is needed.
Overall Climate
The climate is very pleasant all year round, with temperatures varying between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius.
There are three seasons, warm and dry season from February till May, rainy season from the end of September till November and "cool" season which extends from October till January. From February to October, the average temperature is from 32 to 38 degrees, but from July till September, there can be some showers, but only for a few hours. Rainy season often amounts in fact to some "refreshing" showers followed by the return of the sun. The climate is tropical so very humid all year round, but Samui remains always refreshed by a pleasant sea breeze blowing from the Gulf. In conclusion, if you love the sun and if you can withstand heights of summer, come from February till May! From March to June it becomes very hot that is up to 40 Degree Celsius (114F), with little or no rain. You will appreciate your air-conditioned accommodation during this time! The months of July to September are hot with occasional rain. These are also popular months for visitors. October and November see more rain than other months, though it generally doesn't rain every day. In contrast to other regions of Thailand, Samui does not really have a well-defined rainy season but sometimes there are sunless periods for two or three days, especially during the monsoon month of November. The weather is quite difficult to predict during this time, but being Samui, you're virtually assured of getting some great sunshine.
